Tactile Intervention in a Digital Environment – Zero Hour Residency Week Two.

Week Two is over! I can’t believe how quickly the time is flying on this four-week residency. Our exploration of ‘touch’ is well underway!

Over the past two weeks, Wendy Yu and I have connected through a mutual love of absurdity. We decided to examine our shared goal of exploring ‘touch’ across digital platforms.

The reality is, that we want to explore tactile engagement and the physicality of touch – but how can we do this in a digital space? Somewhere that does not physically exist or have a tactility beyond the keyboard. This has led us to the somewhat oxymoronic phrase ‘tactile intervention in a digital environment’.

Zero Hour Residency – A virtual residency in a time of social distancing.

I’m so excited to be taking part in Zero Hour, the newest project by arts group ‘We Belong Here’. Zero Hour is a collaborative transdisciplinary online residency; bringing together artists and performers to create a new body of work.

For this residency, I have been partnered with dancer and coder Wendy Yu. Yu is currently working and researching in Berlin. Our collaborative project will investigate ‘touch’ and the physicality of the body.

Artistic and Autistic

Artistic and Autistic An Exhibition at King’s College London (Postponed due to COVID-19)

Artistic and Autistic is an exhibition of work by autistic artists and explores what Autism means to them. As the exhibition has been postponed I have decided to showcase details of the prints ‘The Space Separating’ rather than the full images.

I gained a formal diagnosis in 2016 after receiving counselling in response to stress. I soon realised that the stress and anxiety I was feeling was provoked by having an ‘atypical neurology’ or ‘different’ brain function in a ‘neurotypical’ world.

Are you Book Enough?

‘Are you Book Enough?’ Editions printmaking studio, Seattle have set this beautiful challenge.

Now in its fourth-year ‘Editions’ asks bookbinders on an international scale if they are ‘book enough?’

The challenge is free to take part in and anyone can join. The only requirement is that high-quality images are posted on social media with the relevant monthly hashtags.

As this will be my first year undertaking the challenge I have decided to post three books every quarter. (It’s taken me a while to update this blog because there is nothing quite like a global pandemic to get in the way of bookbinding.)

Blind Spot

Blind Spot – ‘Coming together to reflect on works by, and for, women practitioners and thinkers.’

I am so pleased to be giving an informal presentation with my colleague, collaborator and friend; photographer, Jo Garrett. Blind Spot is a new monthly space for individuals to come together and reflect on the work of women practitioners.
